Welcome to Texas Home Educators Sports Association (THESA)
This page is designed to help current and newly registered families understand how THESA operates, where to find official information, and what applies to everyone versus what may apply only to a specific sport.
If you’re looking for tryouts, fees, or registration information, those details live on each Sport page. This section is for families who are already participating or preparing to do so.
How THESA Is Structured
All THESA athletes participate under organization-wide standards, which apply to every sport. Some sports also compete in outside leagues and may have additional requirements.
Think of it this way:
THESA rules apply to everyone
League or sport-specific rules apply only if your sport participates in that league
This page will help you find both—without confusion.
What Applies to All THESA Athletes
Every athlete and family is responsible for understanding and following these organization-wide standards:
THESA Eligibility Requirements
Baseline age, homeschool status, academic standing, varsity limits, and participation requirements.THESA Code of Conduct
Behavioral expectations for athletes and parents, both on and off the field.THESA Handbook
Operational policies include attendance expectations, discipline procedures, safety guidance, and the formal grievance process.
Sport-Specific & League Requirements
Some sports (such as football and basketball) participate in outside athletic leagues. These leagues may impose additional eligibility rules, classifications, or reporting requirements beyond THESA standards.
Important things to know:
League requirements do not apply to all sports
They are not listed in the Families menu
They are always linked directly from the individual Sport page
If your athlete’s sport has additional requirements, you will find them clearly labeled on that sport’s page under “Additional Requirements.”
